DAY'S DOINGS TERSELY TOLD

C. M. ADAMS RETURNED FROM FINE TRIP TO NORTH
Mr. Charlton M. Adams, of the Prudential, has returned home from a long
trip into northern New York and Canada, sleeping under blankets and taking
the best part of life as it came to him, forgetting the worries and just
living life as it should be lived.

NEGRO STOLE DOG FROM CHIEF OF POLICE CONNER
John Henderson, a small negro boy, was arrested yesterday for stealing a
setter puppy belonging to Chief Conner. The dog was taken from the yard
of Lieut. Grace, where it was sent for safe keeping some three weeks ago.
The dog is a valuable one.

COTTAGES BEING ERECTED AT RATE OF TWO EACH DAY
Building Inspector Paullin says he has not issued any building permits
calling for any great ammounts recently, but that he averages about two a
day for cottages. These are being erected in all parts of the city.

KNOCKED OFF AN OIL TANK AND WAS BADLY INJURED
Mr. C. A. Pledger, employed by the Maccaw Manufacturing Co., was
accidentally knocked off an oil tank yesterday and badly hurt, receiving
internal injuries. He was carried to the City Hospital in the city
ambulance.

LITTLE NELLIE KATHLEEN LANGSTON DIED YESTERDAY
Nellie Kathleen, the two and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Edgar H. Langston, of Hawkinsville, died yesterday morning at 7 o'clock at
the residence of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Norris, in East Macon.
The family had moved to Hawkinsville after a long residence in this city
when the little daughter was taken sick and sent to Macon with her
grandparents, where she could receive better medical attention. The
funeral will occur from the residence of the grandparetns this morning at
10 o'clock, the Rev. J. Perry Lee officiating. Interment in Rose Hill cemetery.

MRS. CHRISTIAN'S FUNERAL WAS HELD YESTERDAY
The funeral of Mrs. Beuna V. Christian, who died Tuesday, was held
yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock and was largely attended. Interment was
in Rose Hill cemetery.

$15,000 BRICK STORE FOR BROWNSVILLE, GA
Architect Frank B. Happ has nearly completed the plans and specifications
for a $15,000 brick store building for J. F. Byron & Sons, at Brownsville.

MACONITES LEAVE THIS MORNING FOR THE NORTH
Messrs. L. C. McAfee, Jack Colbert, J. E. Wilson, Mrs. R. Brady and Miss
Warren and party, will leave over the Central this morning for Norfolk,
and thence to New York by water.

DR. AND MRS. B. S. GOSTIN OFF FOR PHILIPPINE ISLES
Dr. and Mrs. B. S. Gostin and children, who came from Washington a month
ago and have been spending the time with their paretns, Dr. and Mrs. G. B.
Gostin, on Orange street, leave this morning for San Francisco to sail for
the Philippines, where he will be stationed for the next two years.

LABOR DAY COMMITTE[E] TO MEET FRIDAY NIGHT
Mr. G. C. Vann, chairman of the Labor Day committee, has called a meeting
of the members of the committee to be held in the Knights of Columbus Hall
on Cotton avenue and First street, for Friday night at 8 o'clock. The
principal object of the meeting is to arrange the Labor Day programme and
appoint the several committee men to their posts.

BANK CLEARINGS FOR MONTH SHOW GRATIFYING INCREASE
Bank clearings for the month of July of the Macon Clearing House
Association amounted to $2,243,362 while the same month last year the
clearings were only a trifle over $2,000,000, which shows a gratifying increase.

WELL KNOWN YOUNG MAN IS APPOINTED TO WEST POINT
Mr. John Pate Steele, a well known young attache of the American National
Bank, has received his appointment to a cadetship at West Point from
Congressman E. B. Lewis of the Third district, in which Mr. Steele's home
is located. Mr. Steele will spend the fall at Highland Falls, New York,
preparing for the entrance examinations to the military academy which will
be held January 14.

NEGRO SUSPECT WAS RELEASED BY SHERIFF
Dock Sanford, the negro who has been held on suspicion of complicity in
the murder of the negro Marshall Hardwick last spring, was released
yesterday afternoon, it appearing that he was innocent. The other
negroes, Edgar Jackson, Will Mincher and Whitfield are still being held
awaiting further investigation.
